You can make gifts for your loved ones, prototype a new product idea, build your design and drawing skills, and even collaborate on projects with other residents.

  • There are endless possibilities for what residents can make in a maker space. Some ideas include making gifts, prototypes, custom fashion, cosplay accessories, one-of-a-kind home decor, and more.

We have a large assortment of arts materials available including paint, adhesives, various types of paper, colored pencils and markers, rulers, cutting tools, and more.

The Addison Maker Space offers residents access to a laser cutter, which can be used for a variety of projects. There are many easy projects that you can make on a laser cutter: a sign for your home or office, a plaque to commemorate a special occasion; a set of engraved coasters to give as a gift, your own customized keychain; a custom engraved phone case, and more.

We also have several 3D printers available which can be used for a variety of purposes including prototyping, making small toys and sculptures, and printing small parts and tools. You could print out a hook for your wall, a set of chess pieces, a figurine of a favorite comic book character, a chopstick holder, a whistle...the possibilities are endless!

Residents of the Addison Maker Space can use our user-friendly Cricut Maker to make a variety of items. A few examples include decals, stickers, labels, and more. Picture all your spice jars and dry goods labeled in your favorite color and typeface; or a set of removable window graphics that transform your space. You can use the Cricut to create custom designs or to replicate designs you find online.

We also have digital sewing and embroidery machines that will allow you to make pillows and curtains, customize hats, embroider tea towels, mend clothing, and more! Upcycle a secondhand piece into something special, or learn to do your own tailoring, or design and embroider a custom patch.

  • Once you are fully trained on the machines and have been certified for understanding of safety practices, you will be able to use the maker space whenever you'd like, at no additional cost--it's just a part of your rent.

  • The Maker Space will provide some simple prototyping materials like cardboard, and will keep reclaimed materials and scraps available so you have low-cost materials to use. You can also buy your own materials for projects, and our team can make recommendations for where to find them and get the best prices.

  • The Addison Maker Space is designed for creatives and tinkerers at all levels and all ages, so whether you're a child or an adult who loves to tinker with things, the Maker Space is the perfect place for you.

  • Once you complete your training, you will have access to the doors of the Addison Maker Space via the Latch app.

  • Yes. Everyone needs to be trained before using the machines. Even if you’ve used a tool before, each machine and each setup has its own settings, systems, and quirks. If you’re already advanced in making things, your training will be very simple—you’ll mostly just learn the machine settings and protocols, take an assessment, and you’ll be on your way to making in no time.

  • There are no age restrictions on who can use the Maker Space, but users under 18 may require supervision and/or specific permission from a guardian.

  • The space will be open the same hours as all other building amenities, unless there is an event or workshop planned.

  • If you're interested in learning more about the Addison Maker Space, or want to take a tour, please email us at hello@addisonmakerspace.com and we would be more than happy to answer any of your questions.
